Call for Topical Collections

AI Perspectives welcomes collections on timely topics related to the field of artificial intelligence applications at large. The objective of a Topical Collection is to bring together recent and high quality works in a research domain, to promote key advances in specific research areas covered by the journal, and to provide overviews of the state-of-the-art developments in emerging artificial intelligence research areas.

Topical Collection proposals in the format of a single PDF document, including the information below, shall be submitted by email to the AI Perspectives Publishing Editor ( Please include in the subject line ‘AI Perspectives Topical Collection Proposal’.

Proposals for Topical Collections should include the following information:

a.     Topic of the Collection. Any topic in the scope of AI Perspectives is appropriate, but Topical Collections should address new areas, or consolidated areas with significant recent progresses. The rationale for the Topical Collection topic has to be well motivated, and the timeliness and relevance to the journal audience has to be clearly presented. In addition, objective criteria that show the importance of the proposed topic are welcome, as well as indications about the absence of similar Topical Collections in other journals.

b.     Guest editor team. A team of guest editors will manage the peer review process of the Topical Collection, after acceptance of the proposed topic. After acceptance, the Guest Editors will be responsible for the content of the Topical Collection. The Guest Editors should be well established experts in the domain of the Topical Collection or closely related fields. They should have at a minimum, several years (typically 5) of post-PhD experience, and a significant publication track record. The team of Guest Editors should also be well balanced, and provide a complete coverage of the technical scope of the Topical Collection. Topical Collection proposals shall include a short bio for each of the Guest Editors, along with complete contact information for each of them.

c.     Potential contributions. Proposals are usually stronger if they include a list of potential contributors, which demonstrate the importance of the topic. Alternatively, a list of workshops, special sessions or similar events can contribute to support the potential success of a Topical Collection.

d.     Call for papers. A draft call for papers should be attached to the proposal. This one-page document should clearly describe the scope of the Topical Collection, the topics to be covered, a tentative timing, along with the guest editors with their contact information.

Further Information:

AI Perspectives publishes Topical Collections after publication of a call for papers. These calls for papers are issued after a Topical Collection proposal has been accepted by the journal. All the papers submitted to a call for papers will then undergo a single-blind review process under the management of the guest editors, before acceptance and publication.
